Going to Haiti!
21 Jan
Hello friends. After seeing and hearing about the devastating earthquake recently in Haiti, my heart was instantly softened for the Haitian people, many of whom are now without even the necessities of normal every day life. Upon learning of the mass amount of destruction, I began seeking ways that I may be able to help… whether it be from my home or actually going. Well, the latter is now the case and I will be heading to Haiti on February 1st (less than two weeks) for 10 days. I will be part of a team through Kids Alive International building a temporary housing community for lost and displaced orphans.
It is now my goal to raise a minimum of $1,200 to help cover the cost of my flight and accommodations. Any extra I can raise will be put directly towards the orphans we will be serving to assist with basic needs such as food, clothing, medical, etc. My goal is to raise these funds within the next two weeks!
If you would like to give a financial gift for this trip, here are the details: Please make checks out to “Kids Alive”. All checks will be tax deductible as long as you do not put my name on the memo of the check. You can give checks to me in person if you are local, otherwise checks can be mailed to Kids Alive at P.O. Box 2117, Valparaiso, IN 46384-2117 (just include a note stating that the money is to go toward Shane Gillies’ trip).
There are other ways you can assist as well:

Hi Shane -
I will be making a donation in your behalf and would also like to gather some of the items that you have listed. Do I give these items to you or do I need to mail them out to a certain address? I have also forwarded this info on to a small group of friends.
Hi Angela, thank you so much for your support! Just to let you know, there may be a way to donate online on my behalf by tonight or tomorrow if you would rather do that. If you gather items, it would be easier for me to come get them from you. We are all checking an extra large bag for that very purpose. I will keep you posted, but things are moving VERY quickly. Thank you!!!!
Shane-
This is awesome. I am so proud of you for taking this step. It makes me want to go to! I will be praying for you. I had never heard of kids alive before – what a cool thing. I look forward to more progress reports.
